What Is Normal ?

Professor Eck, please help me to understand.

What Is Normal ?

To answer this important question, U.W.R.M. Adjunct Professor "Eck" Eckerle has established a whole new branch of scientific research: anthronology

I'm normal !

OK, so what is Anthro... whatever ?

AnthroPOLogy is the scientific study of humans. AnthroNOLogy is the scientific study of "normal" humans.

In other words, it is the study of Eck and similar species of Deckster. But just what makes Decksters (of all people !) "normal" ? If this were an easy question to answer, we wouldn't need the new science of anthronology, would we ? Duh !

But here are a few things to consider the next time you find yourself sitting on the deck, observing human behavior and waxing philosophical...

"Normal" does not simply mean "average". If it did, who would be the normal ones inside a lunatic asylum ? Huh ?

So there must be more to it than that. Of course, Professor Eckerle will go into the excruciating details in his upcoming seminar at U.W.R.M. In the meantime, here are a few examples from his extensive field work that illustrate the difference:

Normal Not Normal
Standing by the fire, staring into the flames Standing by the fire, staring at your cellphone
Following Wild Bill down Superstition Following Wild Bill on Twitter
Dancing to the music Dancing With The Stars
Liking any Deckster on the deck Liking any Deckster on Facebook
Skiing with your arms spread because you're JD Skiing with your arms spread because you don't know how to stop
Wearing a helmet because it keeps your head warm Wearing a helmet because you think it protects you from trees
Skiing in tight formation because you're in the Deckster Airforce Skiing in tight formation because you're in the Ski Patrol
Getting to the hill at 9, making some runs, then retiring to the bar for a handwarmer or two Getting to the hill at 9, getting drunk at the bar, then retiring to the slopes at 4 to make some runs
Taunting G-man by asking him to play Freebird Singing along with G-man while he plays Freebird
Free-heel skiing because you know how to telemark, like Dean or Les Free-heel skiing because you forgot to clamp down again, like Abby
A ski area with a bar A ski area with a bar, but no barstools

That's Deckster Science !
