Reggae Fest and Perrot State Park

Trempealeau County, Wisconsin

May 2013

Welcome, mon, to Reggae Fest at dee 'otel Trump-ee-low in Weez-con-seen, mon, along dee mah-tee Miz-ziz-zip-pee.
Eye-ree, mon. Eye-and-eye, mon.

Trempealeau is currently famous for two things - Trempealeau Mountain and the Hotel Trempealeau. The Hotel has an outdoor stage and hosts several music festivals in late spring. Reggae Fest and Blues Fest have become local traditions. Yah. mon !
I like to camp out at nearby Perrot State Park this time of year. Having a music festival down the road is a bonus. Especially one that serves jerk pork on rice and beans and tap brews from Central Waters!

The name "Trempealeau Mountain" is a corruption of the French "La Montagne Qui Trempe a Leau" which means "the mountain whose foot is bathed by water". The water referred to is the Mississippi River, as shown in this view downstream from near the top of Brady's Bluff.

Perrot State Park features several distinct "bluffs" that overlook the River. These are not really river bluffs today (unlike the ones in the distance). But in the past they were, before the River changed course and carved them off into free-standing "islands" of dolomite and sandstone. Perrot Ridge is one of these, which is where this photo was taken.

Looking west at Brady's Bluff from Perrot Ridge. Winona, Minnesota is hidden behind this "bluff", as is Trempealeau Mountain.
Go there and see for yourself!
