A majestic "bird of prey" takes off to head downriver.

The Mississippi River at 30-year flood stage, Praire du Chien, Wisconsin.

Looking upriver at Effigy Mounds National Monument, Iowa.

Riding the wind, a turkey vulture soars, almost motionless...

...before finally veering off toward the greening bluffs.

Following a wooded path along the bluff at Wyalusing, Wisconsin...

...we cross a footbridge beneath the flint ledge and stumble across...

...a fox den ! And what better place than this ?

What ? You still here ? Just wait till Mom gets back !

Never mind, I'll deal with you myself !
Grrrrr !!!!

OK. But you better be gone when I wake up !

Fair warning. Time to move on...
back up the trail to the top of the bluff.

As the sun sinks slowly over the flooded Mississippi,
it's time to stoke the fire and tune in Ghostriders in the Sky !
