Springtime 2001 along the Mississippi

Near the confluence of the Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers

A majestic "bird of prey" takes off to head downriver.

Looking upriver at Effigy Mounds National Monument, Iowa.

Riding the wind, a turkey vulture soars, almost motionless...

...before finally veering off toward the greening bluffs.

Following a wooded path along the bluff at Wyalusing, Wisconsin...

...we cross a footbridge beneath the flint ledge and stumble across...

...a fox den ! And what better place than this ?

What ? You still here ? Just wait till Mom gets back !

Never mind, I'll deal with you myself !
Grrrrr !!!!

OK. But you better be gone when I wake up !

back up the trail to the top of the bluff.

As the sun sinks slowly over the flooded Mississippi,
